  21.           PkBackup is being marketed in this special form as
  22. shareware. This means you have the opportunity to use and
  23. evaluate it before you decide whether to buy. If you regularly
  24. use PkBackup, or any of its "offspring" programs, then you are
  25. required to register according to the instructions on page 5 of
  26. this document.  (The cost as of this writing is $10.00 Canadian
  27. per single-user license.  For site license information, please
  28. contact the publisher.)  When you register, you receive a copy of
  29. the latest registered version of PkBackup, plus any enhancements
  30. that may have been added since this document was released.  Using
  31. this shareware issue for more than 14 days constitutes "regular"
  32. use under this license, and requires the user to register.

  53. Why use PkBackup?
  54.  
  55.      Anyone downloading files from bulletin boards should be
  56. familiar with PKUNZIP for unpacking those files. PkZip, however
  57. is a very powerful tool when used to make backups. Multiple files
  58. can be compress into a single file larger than a floppy and
  59. stored on a series of disks. The problem is the hours of hunting
  60. in the documentation to do just what you want. Pkbackup can be
  61. used automate Pkzip with a graphic interface under windows.

  64. What is PkBackup?
  65.  
  66.      PkBackup is a utility acting as a front end to PKZIP. Run
  67. under WINDOWS, PkBackup will allow easy selection of directories
  68. to be saved. Then, the complete directory, including
  69. subdirectories if selected will be compressed and saved on the
  70. designated floppy(s).

  89. INSTALLATION (start from DOS)
  90.  
  91. 1. Install PKZIP as per the instruction from PKWARE.
  92.  
  93. 2. The directory containing PKZIP must be added to the PATH
  94.    command in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Check your DOS manual for
  95.    details.
  96.  
  97. 3. Copy PKBACKUP.EXE to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory.
  98.  
  99. 4. Start WINDOWS. (Refer to the WINDOWS manual for details on
  100.    the following instructions.)

  102. 5. Select the GROUP in which you wish PkBackup to reside.
  103.  
  104. 6. From the FILE menu, select NEW.
  105.  
  106. 7. Chose "Program Item" and use the BROWSE feature to install
  107.    the PkBackup icon.
  108.  
  109. 8. To run PkBackup, double click on its icon.

  113. RUNNING PkBackup
  114.  
  115. 1. Click once on the OK button to start. (The registered version
  116.    does not make you chase any buttons!)
  117.  
  118. 2. Select the following by clicking on the appropriate button:
  119.  
  120.      Subdirectories: ON - This will zip all files in the selected
  121.                           directory and all files in every
  122.                           subdirectory under the selected
  123.                           directory. (Selecting C:\ will backup
  124.                           the complete drive C:) The directory
  125.                           structure is also saved.

  128.                     OFF - This will save all files in the
  129.                           selected directory, but anything in
  130.                           lower nested directories are not saved.
  131.

  133.      Multidisk:      ON - PKZIP will prompt for another
  134.                           destination disk when required.
  135.  
  136.                     OFF - File to be stored must fit on one
  137.                           floppy. PKZIP will abort without saving
  138.                           anything if the selected files will not
  139.                           fit on one floppy.

  148.      Compression:   MAX - Maximum compression. Slower, but
  149.                           produces a smaller output file.
  150.  
  151.                    NORM - Normal compression. A compromise
  152.                           between speed and output file size.

  155.      Drive: A: or B: - Selection of destination drive. 
  156.  
  157.  
  158. 3. Select the source drive using the drive box in the top centre
  159.    of the screen.
  160.  
  161.  
  162. 4. Select the directory to be saved. Double click on the desired
  163. subdirectory and the Source and Destination names appear. These
  164. must be set before the "Start Backup" button is clicked.

  168. 5. Click on "Start Backup" and watch it go - simple!
